BIOGRAPHY

My journey with colors began at a very early age. I am a self-taught artist and was inspired by my maternal grandfather, a well-known artist in India and student of Rabindranath Tagore, first Asian Nobel laureate. After my family immigrated to the United States I continued drawing through my school years winning several awards and recognition for my art. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Finance. Subsequently, I worked in the financial/banking field for some years and found myself with little or no time to devote to my artwork. However, despite the time constraints I made every effort to pursue my artistic interests by continuing to draw and sketch whenever I had the time.

My strong desire to immerse myself in art led me to make the decision to forgo my career in banking and pursue a career in Fine Arts. I have since completed some years of training with many award winning artists at the Visual Arts Center in Summit and other art organizations and worked with various media such as oil, pastel, acrylic, charcoal and watercolor as well as mixed media.

Additionally, I have a Graphic Design Certificate from Rutgers University and have completed Visual Arts/Art History courses at Princeton University. I continue to focus on developing my skills and expand my artistic range by exploring abstractions with mixed media and constantly considering and experimenting with new techniques and themes.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My art resonates with a sense of mystery, poetry, lyrical rhythm, and movement of patterns in nature, our environment, and our earth. I am intrigued by symbolism and impressions which I like to present in a contemporary and abstract style with brilliant colors. Each painting is a product of deep reflection, meditation, and emotions that come from within. I enjoy bringing these bright compositions to my viewers with oils, acrylic, watercolors, and mixed media.

I have always been keenly observing our beautiful earth through the clouds during my many travels around the world. I was so drawn to what I saw that I decided to capture the vivid colors of those natural views on my canvas. As the climate change phenomenon has always concerned me, I feel the need to use my artistic expression to raise awareness about ‘Our Earth’ and the environmental issues that threaten the world today. Reminding mankind to get together to work towards saving our earth makes it a safer place to live for future generations.

To reflect this passion, I started painting a new series called “Ridges.” Since I work mostly from my imagination, the only thing I knew about each painting when I started working on them was my color palette. As I began laying the colors it all came together naturally on the canvas. In each individual painting, I painstakingly set forth on the daunting task of bringing the majesty of our globe to my canvas as a tribute to the planet with which we are blessed.
